Mental Health & Substance Use Disorder Treatment
A dual diagnosis isn’t a diagnosis itself; rather, it is a combination of mental health and substance use disorders. Mental health disorders often contribute to substance use disorders and vice versa. People struggling with a mental health disorder such as anxiety, depression, suicide ideation or other mental health conditions may also have a co-occurring substance use disorder involving alcohol, prescription drugs, illicit drugs or other addictive substances, which can worsen the symptoms of mental health conditions.
The most common mental health conditions include:
- Major depressive disorder
- Bipolar disorder
- Anxiety and mood disorders
- Schizophrenia
- Schizoaffective disorder
- Post-traumatic stress disorder
- Suicidal ideation
The most commonly used substances by people with mental health conditions:
- Alcohol
- Benzodiazepines
- Opioids
- Stimulants
- Hallucinogens
- Marijuana
- Tobacco
Our Dual Diagnosis Program focuses on treating both mental health and substance use disorders concurrently. Our physician-led multidisciplinary treatment team will develop an individualized treatment plan to address the medical, psychiatric and substance use related needs of the patient, treating the patient with a combination of evidenced-based pharmacological and therapeutic interventions.
This includes a physician-supervised detoxification, 24-hour nursing care to ensure withdrawal symptoms are effectively managed and therapist-led programming to help patients with co-occurring conditions overcome addiction, reduce the risk of relapse and sustain recovery. Additionally, our program is embedded with Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous’ 12-step recovery program and includes weekly meetings on-site.
